Slate Digital claim they have sought out the highest quality, next-gen components in designing the VRS-8 interface. It has been designed to compete with DSP based audio-interface / software recording solutions. The VRS-8 is a native based system that incorporates software modeling of vintage microphones and pre-amps. Slate maintain they have spared no expense in assembling the VRS-8, stating that it rivals any audio-interface on the market for sound quality and performance. The VRS-8 has been over 2 years in development. Steven Slate has said that the inspiration behind VRS 8 was the ability to bring an entire studio’s worth of vintage gear to a laptop. Slate Digital are also including their "Everything" software bundle free for a year too! You will also be able to purchase both separately too. The interface will be bundled with up to 5 x ML-2 microphones. The VRS-8 and ML-2 offer the same solution, except you now have 8 x VMS-ONE mic-pre's included in a high-performance native-based Thunderbolt 2 or PCIe interface. VMS technology brought this vintage gear into your studio, suite or bedroom. VMS technology provided you with an exceptional reference pre-amp and microphone, that could then be modeled to become a number of different vintage mic’s and pre’s via the included Slate Digital software. The VRS-8 (Virtual Recording Studio) is the next step forward for Slate, following their Virtual Microphone System: The VMS-ONE pre-amp and ML-1 microphone.

The pre-production process is the first stage of creating animations. Let’s see what’s included in each of them. The process consists of 3 main phases: pre-production, production, and post-production. Now, let’s learn more about how 2D animation is created. That being said, Frozen has proven there is a demand for new ideas when the story resonates with movie goers. With the development of computer technologies, this process was also digitized through various 2D animation software with the option of drawing the characters and backgrounds directly into the computer and animating them. With these astronomical figures in mind it is clear to see why studios tend to play it safe with big hitting sequels that draw in audience numbers with familiar characters. This is not including any marketing or distribution costs, which can sometimes exceed the cost to produce the film. So in terms of 3D animation cost, from this sample we can discern an estimated average budget of $24,156 for every second of animation that makes it into the final cut, or just under $1.5 million per minute. 3D Animated Feature Film Budgets Budgets and running times of the top grossing animated feature films (as of July 2015) Titleįrozen tops the charts bucking the trend of top seated sequels. Sequels such as Toy Story 3 dominate the top charts. To get some rough figures we can take a look at the top grossing animated films, their production costs and run times ( source). These are international multi billion dollar companies with huge distribution networks and their budgets reflect this. The biggest studios producing animated films right now are without a doubt Disney (“Frozen”), including their subsidiary Pixar (“Toy Story”), DreamWorks (“Shrek”) and the relative newcomer but sucessful Illumination Entertainment (“Minions”). Simpler shots such as set extensions and wire removal (digitally painting out safety lines) could be $10k or less, other full CG shots with fully animated 3D characters and environments could cost $100k or more. Hundreds of artists over several studios will work on a short effects sequence and with average shot lengths as short as 3 seconds, I think we can now appreciate the staggering amount of work and investment that is put into the visual effects that are often taken for granted in modern feature films. Of course every shot comes with its own unique challenges and scale of production involved. The Interview had a notably lower budget per shot than blockbuster average. But very roughly, it appeared the average cost per shot for these lower budget movies was between $10k-$20k. So making broad brush strokes here we can see that movie VFX for big features comes in around the $42k per shot mark. Several smaller films were also on the roster such as The Interview, Sex Tape and Aloha, but their VFX budgets were much smaller and precise shot counts could not be sourced so were omitted from the list. Movie VFX Budgets All figures are estimates and have been rounded. In the interest of privacy, the budget source documents will not be made available or linked to via this website and the figures have been rounded. The shot counts were gleamed from interviews, ‘making of’ articles, official sites and other sources. So lets take a look at the figures in comparison to overall movie budgets. The cost of Green Lanterns VFX was more than $9 million over the original $45 million budget.ĭue to the extraordinary events late last year in the movie industry, there are now sources available online where you can find real VFX budget data for the first time ever. This cost is then often locked in place, regardless of extra shots or countless revisions. VFX budgets are normally estimated on a calculation of the likely number of shots in a movie, often based on a best guess by reading the script and storyboard. This is a huge problem for the overall well-being of the industry and its artists and perhaps greater financial transparency could begin to remedy some of the issues. Relentless undercutting of the competition has been cited as driving the VFX industry into the ground to the point where Oscar winning facilities are going bankrupt. To try and make estimates was previously almost impossible due to the incredible level of secrecy around the bids that competing studios submit to film production companies. To anyone in the visual effects industry, budgets are a contentious issue. Animation budget insights across film, TV and commercials. I boosted some high mids at 3k ( 4db in this case) and a 2db at 200khz to give some body. I a lso removed some annoying resonances. I removed the low and high end to leave room for the bass and the hats. I used my stock multi-band compressor plugin, you can use yours it does not matter which plugin, as long as you can compress a specific frequency band. Here I compressed some of the low mids, to make the palm mutes tighter and more consistent in volume. The reason I am using them is because I am used to their workflow, feel free to use the plugins that you are familiar with. You may see some plugins that you may not own but that’s really not a problem, since you can use stock EQs and compressors to get the job done. I needed some extreme processing to make the preset sit in the mix but I finally made it. If you want to make the guitar to work in the mix then keep on reading! Plus, if you’re going to use the exact settings for a different project with your own guitar chances are that your sound will differ (guitar wood and new strings do alter the sound). Important: Just because I will share the exact settings of each plugin does not mean that you will need to follow blindly the settings on each mix of yours. Remove Unnecessary Frillsĭepending on who and what your PDF content is intended for, you can scale down the bloat considerably. Your PDF fonts are just as equally important as your images. Take advantage of this feature if you have it. In most cases, you can choose to automatically subset fonts if the character usage is less than a certain amount. If a special character like “#” isn’t used in the file, the character won’t be included. When you subset a font, you attach only the font characters that are used in the PDF. Subset Your Fontsīy embedding fonts, you are essentially attaching the entire character set within the PDF, which can puff up the file significantly. And one less data channel means a smaller file size. In some PDF creators, you can choose to convert CMYK images to RGB if needed. If your PDF is mainly going to be viewed on the web or on a computer screen, choose the RGB colour space for your PDF images. In general, CMYK is ideal for print purposes, while RGB caters to on screen viewing. Each one has different methods of handling colour. You may have heard of RGB and CMYK colour spaces before. As well, you can usually set the desired resolutions and decide if you want to compress your images using popular compression algorithms such as ZIP, LZW, or JPEG. Each has its own advantages, so choose wisely. You’ll be able to choose mainly between bicubic, subsample, and average downsampling methods. When you downsample bitmap images you basically decrease the amount of pixels in it which reduces the overall resolution and hence, the size of the PDF.ĭownsampling options will tell your PDF program know how you want to delete those pixels. However, if your PDF isn’t intended for high resolution needs, you can keep your file under control by downsampling and compressing your images. Given the visual nature of digital content today, images are a big part of PDF files. So go for the “Save As” option once you’ve added everything you need to your PDF. The result is a smaller PDF file you can manage. By doing this, you overwrite the entire file, eliminating unused objects and accumulated changes. This is because the function saves the changes and appends them to the file. Every time you hit Save in an application, you end up with a usually bigger file size. This is a good place to start to cutting down the bloat. Some fine-tuning here and there will go a long way to shave the megabytes off of your file. How can you slim down the size of your PDF document? While this heavily depends from PDF to PDF and the type of content it contains, there are a few general PDF creation options in particular which you should pay close attention to. There’s nothing worse than an email stuck in your outbox because of a large PDF attachment-unless, of course, it’s a slow PDF download from the web. Is there any way to reduce the CAD file size, while maintaining a low tessellation multiplier value?Īnother feature request for any PC-DMIS developer reading this: stop saving the bloody CAD file every time you save a measurement routine, when nothing has changed (as far as I can tell) in the CAD.One of the biggest pet peeves of dealing with a PDF file is the large file size. Bumping up to 0.5 yields a file size of about 40 MB, which is still rather large, and the model starts looking a bit rough. The CAD file after importing it and 0.1 as the tessellation value, comes in at a whopping 98 MB. A relatively simple model, that stored as an NX PRT file, or a STEP file, take up a few 3-4 MB. It's pretty wasteful, and a burden when you are using a slow network connection, such as a VPN. To me, this suggests that the CAD file is storing the model tessellation, which I would rather it not do. I've noticed that the lower tessellation multiplier I set (lower values make models look better), the greater the CAD file file becomes for a given program.
